Frequently asked:
How much time does it take to make a video?
Unsurprisingly, it depends on the type of video and the complexity of the elements that are going to be in it, including the team we provide to meet your needs. One of our very first questions will be the all-important dates you need to work to. We’re flexible with working with a range of deadlines from a number of days all the way up to multi-month projects.
What is your process?
First we’ll have a chat and discuss your needs to see how we can add value through colours, shapes and a bunch of our other tricks.
Our process is unique to each project, however we do have a framework that is all encompassing. We work with you to get an effective brief that all parties are happy with. We can help write, or advise on the script. Then we move into design and start working on moodboards, styleframes and a storyboard. We have frequent reviews throughout the design process to ensure we’re all on the same page.
Once the design is approved, we can think about voice overs, music and animation. We put this to a rough animatic to check on pace, timing and any final checks before heading into the animation stage. Once the animation phase is complete, your video is ready to be shared with the world. Lastly, if needed, we can localise and reformat the video in every necessary language or aspect ratio.
How many people are in your team?
Currently we have three members of permanent staff and we are growing. We work with a network of skilled and talented creators from all disciplines, specialities and backgrounds to ensure all briefs are fulfilled to our clients’ needs.
Do you accept interns?
We’re always on the lookout for up and coming talent. Like the majority of the creative industry, our founder Gordon got his headstart to a design career from an internship, so we recognise how valuable it is to offer similar opportunities back out to the design community. Send us an email at careers@tricks.studio if you think you’ve got what it takes.
What skills do you value the most in a new team member?
It’s really important that all members of our team are driven, flexible and collaborative in nature. We love to pass ideas around the studio to help our clients in any way that they need. We really encourage self-initiated learning and pushing yourself in new directions to further expand your skills.
What’s your typical client?
We’ve been fortunate to work with a range of clients since founding the studio. We work with start-ups all the way to global organisations and charities. We don’t see our typical client as a particular job role in a particular sector, but rather as a communicative, friendly and collaborative team. We pride ourselves on the working relationships we have established thus far within our client base.
How much does it cost to work with you?
We cost on a project basis, as every video and design piece is unique. That means our quotes are tailored to your needs. As a small business, of course we have overheads to run. Though, we operate in a lean manner to allow us to flex to our client’s budgetary needs.
Are you a full—service design studio?
No, and we’re ok with that. We decided to buckle down and focus on our passion: Motion Design and Animation. By specialising we’re able to keep pace with the ever-evolving industry and ensure we produce the highest quality of work. We have a range of abilities both within our studio, and in our talented collaborators, so head to our contact page to get in touch.
Can I visit your HQ in Chester?
Of course! We operate with an open-door policy, meaning that clients and potential clients alike are able to stop by and chat to the team. We welcome you to have a brew and talk through your project, and we’re pretty pleased with how swanky the place is.
